1. Babagana Zulum Dissolves Borno State Executive Council

Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has dissolved the State Executive Council with immediate effect.

The move is designed to give members of the council a free hand to contest elective positions in the 2027 general elections. NaijaChoice News understands the decision aligns with standard practice to avoid conflict of interest for public office holders eyeing political office.

Governor Zulum has directed all commissioners to hand over the affairs of their ministries to the respective Permanent Secretaries on or before Friday, April 3, 2026. The directive was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Borno State Government, Bukar Tijani FASN, FSSN, JAAS.

2. US Cuts Nigerian Crude Imports By Nearly 50%

The United States sharply cut its purchases of Nigerian crude oil in January 2026, with imports plunging by 47.16 per cent month-on-month.

Official figures from the US Census Bureau and Bureau of Economic Analysis show US refiners took just 1.664 million barrels from Nigeria last month. This is down from 3.149 million barrels in December 2025, a loss of 1.485 million barrels in a single month.

3. Staff Of FMC Umuahia Dies Of Suspected Suicide, Police Begin Investigation

The Abia State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the death of Mr Ikenna Onuoha, a junior staff member at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.

His body was discovered last week along a bush path in the Amaeke-Isiadu area of Umuahia North Local Government Area. The deceased was described by colleagues as a jovial and dedicated worker who carried out his duties without complaints.

4. 2027: We Will Back ADC For Presidential Election – NNPP Spokesperson, Johnson

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) says it would be in alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the presidential election.

NNPP National Publicity Party, Ladipo Johnson, disclosed this on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, ahead of the 2027 general polls.

He disclosed that despite the defection of its 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, from the party, the NNPP would still participate in the next general elections.

5. Man Dies After Being Thrown From Four-Storey Building In Anambra

A middle-aged man, identified simply as Emeka, has died after he was allegedly thrown from a four-storey building at 17, Afubera Street, Odoakpu, near Onitsha, in Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The incident occurred around 3am on Friday, throwing residents into panic.

When our correspondent visited the scene on Sunday, residents were still gathered at the compound, while police operatives were present.

A viral video circulating online showed the lifeless body of the deceased lying in a pool of blood as residents and passersby looked on.

6. 2027: Gawuna Resigns As Federal Mortgage Bank Of Nigeria Chairman

Former Kano Deputy Governor and 2023 All Progressives Congress governorship candidate perfected a defection deal with Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State. He is expected to formally join the African Democratic Congress on Tuesday. The development comes amid fresh political realignments in Kano ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, Gawuna said the decision takes immediate effect. He aligned it with President Bola Tinubu’s directive for all political appointees to step down in compliance with the Electoral Act.

7. Plateau Attack: Death Toll Rises To 27 In Angwa Rukuba Community

Suspected gunmen struck Angwa Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State on Sunday night, leaving no fewer than 27 persons dead.

Barr Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), confirmed the casualty figure on Monday. He said 14 victims died on the spot while 13 others passed away later in hospital. Their bodies have since been returned to the community for burial.

8. US Rep Riley Moore Reacts to The Christian Massacre in Plateau State on Palm Sunday

Gunmen suspected to be radical Islamic terrorists struck Christian communities in Jos, Plateau State, on Palm Sunday, killing at least 10 people.

Eyewitnesses told NaijaChoice News the attackers opened fire on residents before hacking victims with machetes in areas including Angwa Rukuba and nearby student neighbourhoods.

The assault turned a day of worship into a scene of horror, with bodies left in the streets as panic spread through the city.

9. Plateau Residents Defy Curfew, Protest Over Palm Sunday Massacre

Hundreds of angry residents in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State on Monday morning defied a 48-hour curfew imposed by the state government and flooded the streets of Anguwan Rukuba to protest the deadly attack that left several people dead the previous evening.

The demonstration took place right at the scene of the Sunday night massacre, with protesters chanting and demanding urgent government action against what they described as repeated security failures. NaijaChoice News reports that the crowd, visibly agitated, insisted the curfew was no solution to the unending cycle of killings in the area.

10. Bandits Storm Kwara Community, Residents Flee Amid Gunfire, Kidnap Threat

Tension has gripped residents of Oke Daaba in the Oro-Ago community of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State after suspected bandits reportedly invaded the area on Sunday night.

A source who spoke to SaharaReporters disclosed that the armed men stormed the community late in the evening, causing panic among villagers who fled for safety as gunshots were reportedly heard in different parts of the settlement.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of persons abducted during the attack could not be immediately confirmed.
