2. US Cuts Nigerian Crude Imports By Nearly 50%
The United States sharply cut its purchases of Nigerian crude oil in January 2026, with imports plunging by 47.16 per cent month-on-month.
Official figures from the US Census Bureau and Bureau of Economic Analysis show US refiners took just 1.664 million barrels from Nigeria last month. This is down from 3.149 million barrels in December 2025, a loss of 1.485 million barrels in a single month.

The Abia State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the death of Mr Ikenna Onuoha, a junior staff member at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.

4. 2027: We Will Back ADC For Presidential Election – NNPP Spokesperson, Johnson
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) says it would be in alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the presidential election.
NNPP National Publicity Party, Ladipo Johnson, disclosed this on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, ahead of the 2027 general polls.
He disclosed that despite the defection of its 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, from the party, the NNPP would still participate in the next general elections.
5. Man Dies After Being Thrown From Four-Storey Building In Anambra
A middle-aged man, identified simply as Emeka, has died after he was allegedly thrown from a four-storey building at 17, Afubera Street, Odoakpu, near Onitsha, in Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The incident occurred around 3am on Friday, throwing residents into panic.
When our correspondent visited the scene on Sunday, residents were still gathered at the compound, while police operatives were present.
A viral video circulating online showed the lifeless body of the deceased lying in a pool of blood as residents and passersby looked on.
6. 2027: Gawuna Resigns As Federal Mortgage Bank Of Nigeria Chairman
Former Kano Deputy Governor and 2023 All Progressives Congress governorship candidate perfected a defection deal with Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State. He is expected to formally join the African Democratic Congress on Tuesday. The development comes amid fresh political realignments in Kano ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, Gawuna said the decision takes immediate effect. He aligned it with President Bola Tinubu’s directive for all political appointees to step down in compliance with the Electoral Act.
7. Plateau Attack: Death Toll Rises To 27 In Angwa Rukuba Community
Suspected gunmen struck Angwa Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State on Sunday night, leaving no fewer than 27 persons dead.
Barr Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), confirmed the casualty figure on Monday. He said 14 victims died on the spot while 13 others passed away later in hospital. Their bodies have since been returned to the community for burial.
