Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has declared that her active membership in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has delivered practical political lessons no classroom or degree could match.
The co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls movement made the comment in a post on her verified X handle on Saturday.
“The things I am learning just by being a registered member of ADC, no political science degree would have taught me those things and I love it,” she wrote.
“Political parties are where the real power brokering takes place. Joining ADC is the best decision I have ever made.”
NaijaChoice News monitored the statement as it gained traction online.
Yesufu joined the ADC on December 31, 2025, shortly after former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi aligned with the party. The activist, who had never carried a party card before, described the move as an act of solidarity with Obi’s political direction.
Her decision came at a time when opposition figures are regrouping ahead of the 2027 general elections. Many observers see the ADC as one platform now attracting key voices disillusioned with the current political arrangement.
Weeks earlier, Yesufu had urged opposition leaders Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar to rethink their campaign approach. She told them to focus on immediate bread-and-butter issues rather than abstract messaging.
The activist pointed out that crippling poverty has left most Nigerians more worried about daily survival than grand political promises. With rising food prices and widespread hardship, she argued that voters want leaders who visibly tackle their pressing needs.
Yesufu’s comments reflect the shifting mood within Nigeria’s opposition circles. As parties prepare for the next poll, insiders say real influence now lies in understanding grassroots realities rather than theoretical politics.
Her remarks have sparked fresh debate on how the opposition can reconnect with ordinary citizens facing tough economic times.
