Gospel singer and Nollywood soundtrack icon Onos Nancy Brisibi has died at the age of 55.
She passed away on March 23, 2026, after battling a prolonged illness. Her family announced the sad news on Thursday, March 26, through a statement that has since circulated widely across Nigerian media platforms.
NaijaChoice News reports that Brisibi’s unmistakable voice brought emotional depth to several classic Nollywood films in the 1990s and early 2000s. Her powerful vocals featured prominently in hits such as Domitilla and Blood Money, helping to define the soundtrack era that many Nigerians still cherish today. She also lent her voice to other productions including Mortal Inheritance, Deadly Passion, and even mainstream tracks like Lagbaja’s Gra Gra.
The Brisibi family described her passing in a heartfelt statement. “The Brisibi family announces with deep sorrow the passing of Esteemed Sister Onos Nancy Brisibi, who transitioned to glory on 23rd March 2026 after a protracted illness,” it read.
They remembered her as a devoted Christian, gifted songstress, and passionate praise and worship leader. “Onos Nancy Brisibi was a devoted Christian, a gifted songstress, and a passionate praise and worship leader whose angelic voice touched many lives as she spread the gospel through music,” the statement continued.
Family members further hailed her warm personality. They called her “a beautiful, fun-loving woman with a heart of gold, whose faith, warmth, and kindness left lasting impressions on all who knew her.”
Born on November 20, 1970, in Aladja, Udu, Delta State, to the late Apostle Ambrose Oproze Brisibi and Deaconess Mary Koko Brisibi, Brisibi began her musical journey at the tender age of nine. She rose to become a staple in both gospel circles and the booming Nollywood industry, later associating with LoveWorld Ministries where she served as a praise leader.
Veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, her cousin, paid an emotional tribute on social media. He described her voice as one that did not just sing but ministered, lifting hearts and drawing people closer to God. Tributes have continued to pour in from across the Nigerian entertainment and gospel scenes.
Brisibi is survived by her daughter, Sarah Brisibi, her mother, siblings, extended family, friends, and her church family at LoveWorld Ministries.
