President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has admitted he was “a little bit stubborn” at the onset of his administration, citing the barrage of criticisms from newspapers and opinion leaders even as he pushed tough reforms to rescue Nigeria from the brink of bankruptcy.
NaijaChoice News reports that the President made the revelation on Friday, March 13, 2026, while hosting an interfaith breaking of fast with senior journalists, media executives, Newspapers Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN) members, and the Nigerian Guild of Editors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Tinubu, who described his daily newspaper reading habit as an “addiction,” thanked the media for the pressure that sharpened his leadership.

No fewer than 20 security personnel and local vigilantes were killed when heavily armed terrorists ambushed a patrol team in the Garga area of Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Our correspondent reports that the tragic incident occurred around 4pm Friday when a combined team of military personnel and vigilantes, travelling in two vehicles on routine patrol across Garga, Kyaram, Gyambau, and neighbouring communities, came under heavy fire near Wanka.
According to a press statement issued Saturday by the Kanam Development Association (KADA), about 12 security personnel, including two senior military officers, lost their lives in the fierce gun battle, while eight vigilante members who joined forces to defend their communities also paid the supreme price.

The Federal Government has approved N2bn each as take-off grants for the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic in Abuja and the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe in Epe, Lagos State, as part of efforts to support their early operations.
The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, disclosed this on Thursday during the inauguration of key officials appointed to lead the two institutions, according to Arise News.

4. Policemen Kidnapped Me At Night, Beat Me & Stole My ₦444k In Rivers – Man
Nigerian man has recounted a terrifying ordeal in the hands of police operatives in Rivers State, where he was assaulted, handcuffed, beaten mercilessly and forced to transfer N444,000 from his bank account before his car was ransacked.
The victim, who wished not to be named because he feared his mother would see the story and break down in tears, said the incident happened in the early hours of yesterday morning after he drove out of his estate to buy fuel for his car and generator. He explained that power outage and intense heat left him with no choice but to head out around midnight.
“Few weeks ago I felt the prompt to make a post about the Nigerian police officers on the road harassing drivers especially when they see you’re a young boy boom they would label you yahoo boy and start demanding money but I waved it off and didn’t post,” he wrote in a social media post that has now gone viral.
5. I Fasted For A Man For 21 Days, He Proposed To My Prayer Partner — Lady Reveals
Social media platforms have been set ablaze by the tear-jerking testimony of a Nigerian lady who poured her heart, faith, and discipline into a 21-day church fast, only to watch her dream man propose to her own prayer partner.
The story, which first surfaced on Rep9ja and has since exploded across Facebook, Nairaland, Instagram, and GistReel, has left many netizens divided between sympathy, shock, and sermons on divine redirection.
According to the lady, who chose to remain anonymous, the drama began when her pastor called for a 21-day fast focused on seeking God’s clarity in relationships – a common spiritual exercise in many Nigerian Pentecostal churches, especially during periods of breakthrough prayers for marriage and purpose.
6. Middle East Crisis: Threatens Nigerian Ports, Import Costs
Stakeholders in Nigeria’s maritime sector have sounded the alarm over the escalating crisis in the Middle East, warning that the situation could severely disrupt cargo traffic to Nigerian ports, force longer shipping routes and drive up import costs significantly.
Shipping companies, freight forwarders and port users have expressed fears that the prolonged conflict may further worsen inflation in Africa’s largest economy by disrupting global supply chains and increasing operational expenses for importers.
As previously reported by NaijaChoice News, the crisis intensified after US and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February 2026 triggered the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz – a critical chokepoint for global oil and container traffic – while Houthi activities resumed in the Red Sea, pushing carriers to abandon the Suez Canal route entirely.
