In a dramatic escalation of rhetoric amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, United States President Donald J. Trump has declared Iran the “Loser of the Middle East” following what he described as the country’s apology and surrender to its regional neighbours. The statement comes as the war between the US, Israel, and Iran enters its second week, with both sides showing no signs of backing down.
Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform early Saturday, claimed that Iran had been “beat to HELL” and had promised not to attack its Middle East neighbours anymore due to relentless US and Israeli strikes. “Iran, which is being beat to HELL, has apologized and surrendered to its Middle East neighbors, and promised that it will not shoot at them anymore,” Trump wrote. “This promise was only made because of the relentless U.S. and Israeli attack. They were looking to take over and rule the Middle East. It is the first time that Iran has ever lost, in thousands of years, to surrounding Middle Eastern Countries.“
He further added, “They have said, ‘Thank you President Trump.’ I have said, ‘You’re welcome!’ Iran is no longer the ‘Bully of the Middle East,’ they are, instead, ‘THE LOSER OF THE MIDDLE EAST,’ and will be for many decades until they surrender or, more likely, completely collapse! Today Iran will be hit very hard!”

The US president’s comments followed a televised address by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who issued a rare apology to neighbouring Gulf states for Iranian attacks that had spilled over into their territories. Pezeshkian stated that Iran would suspend strikes on these countries unless provoked, but firmly rejected Trump’s demand for unconditional surrender, calling it a “dream” that the US should “take to their grave.“
As previously reported by NaijaChoice News, the conflict erupted last week with coordinated US and Israeli airstrikes on Iranian targets, prompting retaliatory missile and drone attacks from Tehran that have affected regional stability and global energy markets. The war has raised concerns in Nigeria, where fluctuations in oil prices due to disruptions in the Persian Gulf could impact the nation’s economy, as Iran is a key player in the global oil supply chain.
Trump dismissed Pezeshkian’s defiance, vowing to intensify US military operations and even hinting at targeting previously off-limits areas in Iran. “Under serious consideration for complete destruction and certain death, because of Iran’s bad behavior, are areas and groups of people that were not considered for targeting up until this moment in time,” he warned.
Iranian officials have maintained that the country will not capitulate, with Pezeshkian emphasizing in his address that “there will be no surrender.” Analysts suggest Trump’s portrayal of the apology as a full surrender may be an attempt to claim victory amid mounting international pressure to de-escalate.
The conflict has drawn widespread condemnation, with fears of a broader regional war involving other Gulf states. Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Ministry has yet to comment on the latest developments, but experts here warn that prolonged instability could lead to higher fuel costs for Nigerians.
