DAMATURU, Yobe State — The Yobe State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has resolved to use consensus as its preferred method for selecting candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Senator Ahmed Lawan, who represents Yobe North Senatorial District, disclosed this decision during the party’s stakeholders’ meeting held over the weekend in Damaturu. He explained that the party drew from its past successes with the approach, noting it has consistently delivered positive outcomes in the state.
The former Senate President assured that any candidate who emerges through consensus will enjoy the full backing of all party members. He added that mechanisms are already in place to engage and accommodate those who may have aspired for the same positions.
Yobe APC formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office. The party pledged to deliver no fewer than 3.5 million votes for his re-election bid in 2027.
Party leaders highlighted the federal government’s ongoing reforms and interventions, which they said have begun producing encouraging results across the country. They expressed confidence that these efforts would strengthen support for the APC in Yobe and beyond.
According to the stakeholders, all APC candidates for governor, National Assembly, and State Assembly seats are expected to record higher votes than in the 2023 polls. The party attributed this optimism to the existing unity among its members, describing Yobe as one political family.
National Assembly members from the state have maintained close and harmonious collaboration with both the previous Gaidam administration and the current Buni-led government. This cooperation, leaders noted, has helped the state deliver strong electoral performances despite its relatively small size.
Senator Lawan emphasised that the spirit of understanding and mutual support among party members remains the driving force behind Yobe’s consistent results. He said the state aims to achieve one of the highest percentage performances in the country during the 2027 elections.
In exchange for this massive political backing, the Yobe APC leadership promised to sustain good governance and continue delivering dividends of democracy to the people.
NaijaChoice News gathered that party elders and stakeholders remain committed to working together to ensure victory across all positions.
The decisions taken at the Damaturu meeting underscore the ruling party’s determination to maintain dominance in Yobe politics while reinforcing its loyalty to the Tinubu administration at the national level.
