LAGOS, Nigeria — Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has said an opposition alliance could mount a serious challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The cleric, however, warned that not all members of the alliance will remain committed until the end.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele described the decision by opposition parties to field a single candidate as a welcome development capable of putting the ruling All Progressives Congress under pressure.
He stressed that betrayal remains a real threat because some participants lack the will to sustain the project.
The spiritual leader urged the alliance to focus on genuine unity across all parties if it hopes to unsettle the president.
He cautioned the opposition to watch out for government moves designed to frustrate stronger voices within the group and weaken the coalition from inside.
“If they are united till the end, they can shake Tinubu,” Primate Ayodele was quoted as saying. “The president will feel the heat if they are totally united; that’s the only thing that can give the project success.”
He added that the APC would struggle against a cohesive front, yet not every member appears ready for victory.
Primate Ayodele further predicted that the alliance, though promising at the start, would eventually crumble because of insincerity among participants.
He advised the opposition to prepare for a wave of intense court cases that could soon surround the movement.
NaijaChoice News notes that these observations reflect the fragile nature of political coalitions in Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.
The cleric’s assessment underscores the high price of unity if the opposition truly intends to alter the balance of power in 2027
