United States President Donald Trump has declared that Iran possessed far more missiles than intelligence suggested and was on the verge of launching a full-scale attack on America just one week ago.
The US leader dropped the bombshell on Monday while addressing House Republicans during their annual policy retreat at his Doral golf resort in Florida.
“I’ll give you the best reason of all. Within a week, they were going to attack us, 100%. They were ready. They had all these missiles, far more than anyone thought, and they were going to attack us,” Trump stated emphatically.

The revelation comes as the US-led military operation against Iran, which began on February 28 with joint strikes alongside Israel that eliminated former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, appears to be winding down rapidly.
In a separate phone interview with CBS News the same afternoon from his Doral golf club, Trump insisted American forces have already crippled Iran’s military capabilities beyond recognition.
“I think the war is very complete, pretty much,” he said. “[Iran has] no navy, no communications, they’ve got no air force. Their missiles are down to a scatter. Their drones are being blown up all over the place, including their manufacturing of drones.”
According to the US military, more than 3,000 targets across Iran were struck in the first week of Operation Epic Fury alone.
“If you look, they have nothing left. There’s nothing left in a military sense,” Trump added, noting that the campaign is moving far ahead of the original four-to-five-week timeline he had projected.
As previously reported by NaijaChoice News, Iran on Sunday announced that Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, the hardline son of the slain leader, has been chosen as the new Supreme Leader by the Assembly of Experts.
Trump, however, showed no interest in engaging with the new leadership.
“I have no message for him. None, whatsoever,” the President said, hinting strongly that he already has someone else in mind to steer Iran in a different direction.
The developments have sent shockwaves across global markets, with oil prices spiking above $100 per barrel amid fears of prolonged disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, even as Trump hinted he is considering taking control of the strategic waterway.
With Iran’s air defences, naval fleet and missile production in ruins, the US commander-in-chief is projecting that the conflict could end “pretty quickly” – a message that has already triggered sharp rallies on Wall Street.
