Good morning Nigeria. Welcome to the NaijaChoice News roundup of top newspaper headlines in Nigeria for today, Tuesday, 17th March, 2026.
1. UCH Doctors Issues 21 Days Power Ultimatum
University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, have issued a strong 21-day ultimatum to the hospital management over the persistent electricity crisis, vowing to commence an indefinite strike if the situation is not urgently addressed.
The doctors, under the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), UCH chapter, expressed deep frustration, warning that the ongoing power rationing has severely undermined patient care, endangered lives, and crippled medical training at Nigeria’s premier teaching hospital.
Speaking on the development, ARD UCH President, Dr. Uthman Adedeji, told journalists that the union had already activated the ultimatum starting March 7, 2026, following a five-day warning strike that yielded no positive response from management.

2. Boko Haram Demands ₦3.52 Billion For 176 Kidnapped Woro Residents In Kwara
Boko Haram have contacted intermediaries and slapped a ransom demand of N20 million on each of the 176 abducted residents of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
This brings the total demand to a staggering N3,520,000,000 (N3.52 billion), community sources familiar with the ongoing talks have revealed.
The fresh disclosure comes amid growing fears that negotiations between the state government and the insurgents have hit a brick wall, explaining the prolonged silence from authorities in recent weeks.
3. Tinubu Wants To Contest Alone – Dele Momodu
Dele Momodu, chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former presidential candidate, has accused President Bola Tinubu of plotting to run unopposed in the 2027 general election, describing the development as a dangerous assault on Nigeria’s democracy.
Momodu dropped the bombshell during his appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme on March 15, 2026, where he warned that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is engineering massive defections to weaken opposition parties and leave Tinubu with no serious challenger.
“You can imagine how much Tinubu can generate from Lagos State alone not to talk of national, and when you have an absolute ruler everything is available to him,” Momodu declared.
4. APGA Accuses Abaribe of Forging Fake Sack Letter
The leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Abia State chapter has firmly rejected claims that Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe was sacked or expelled from the party, insisting the lawmaker voluntarily resigned his membership on December 30, 2025.
NaijaChoice News reports that the party’s spokesperson, Barrister Chukwuemeka Nwokoro, issued a strongly worded press statement on Saturday, exposing what the party described as a desperate plot by the senator to manufacture evidence of expulsion in a bid to legitimise his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
