Time Will Reveal Who Truly Betrayed Kano People, Says Gov Yusuf’s Aide

The Senior Special Assistant on Social Media to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Salisu Yahaya Hotoro, has declared that the people of Kano will soon discover those who have truly betrayed their interests amid ongoing political controversies.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Hotoro emphasized that accusations of betrayal are being used to cover up unexplained actions by certain individuals. He listed several past issues contributing to the current tensions, including matters related to Novemed, foreign scholarships, alleged land racketeering, contracts for alum and other chemicals used in water treatment, and the purchase of water facility equipment.

“Since they cannot come out to tell the world what they did, we will tell the world, so that the people can judge between us and them,” Hotoro wrote in Hausa, signaling an intent to expose details that he claims have been hidden from the public.

The aide’s remarks come in the wake of Governor Yusuf’s recent defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on January 23, a move that has sparked widespread debate and accusations of disloyalty. The NNPP has strongly condemned the governor’s exit, describing it as a “betrayal of sacred trust” and rejecting claims of internal party crises as baseless.

Former Kano Governor and NNPP national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who is widely seen as Yusuf’s political mentor, addressed supporters at his Miller Road residence in Kano, endorsing January 23 as “World Betrayal Day.” Kwankwaso stated that the idea stemmed from social media discussions labeling Yusuf’s departure as an act of betrayal, and he urged the Kwankwasiyya movement to observe the day annually.

The defection has deepened rifts within Kano’s political landscape, with supporters flocking to Kwankwaso’s home in solidarity. Analysts suggest that these developments could reshape alliances ahead of future elections, as both sides trade barbs over loyalty and governance.

Hotoro’s post further alleged that the controversies are tied to party leadership disputes, implying that those now pointing fingers are deflecting from their own shortcomings. As the dust settles, Kano residents await more revelations that could clarify the true dynamics of power and trust in the state’s politics.
