Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday received re ftnowned artist and Guinness World Record holder Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke at the Lagos House, Marina, in a visit that underscored the state’s commitment to inclusion and youth empowerment.

Tagbo-Okeke was accompanied by representatives of the Kanyeyachukwu Autism Foundation, the Cycling Federation of Nigeria, and the Cycology Cycling Group. The visit brought together advocates of creative expression, sports development, and social inclusion in a shared effort to promote opportunities for individuals living with autism and other unique challenges.

During the meeting, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the young artist for his remarkable achievement and resilience, describing his success as both inspiring and instructive. He noted that society too often concentrates on perceived limitations rather than celebrating the diverse abilities individuals possess.

“Too often, we focus on what people cannot do. But when you look at Kanyeyachukwu’s work, you are reminded that ability comes in many forms,” the governor said. He added that the artist’s accomplishments demonstrate what can be achieved when talent is nurtured, determination is sustained, and communities rally around a shared vision of inclusion.

Tagbo-Okeke, widely recognised for his record-breaking artistic feat, has become a symbol of possibility for young Nigerians, particularly those on the autism spectrum. Through his foundation, efforts are being intensified to raise awareness, advocate for acceptance, and create platforms that allow individuals with autism to showcase their talents and lead fulfilling lives.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also praised the collaboration between the Kanyeyachukwu Autism Foundation and sports organisations such as the Cycling Federation of Nigeria and the Cycology Cycling Group. He described their involvement as a powerful example of how partnerships across sectors can broaden opportunities and foster holistic development.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to build a Lagos that provides equitable access to opportunity and support systems for all residents. According to him, the government remains committed to policies and programmes that promote inclusion, creativity, and social participation, particularly for young people navigating unique life circumstances.

“Our responsibility is to build a Lagos where there is genuine space for everyone to thrive, regardless of the challenges they began with,” Sanwo-Olu said. “We remain committed to fostering a society that recognises ability, supports purpose, and creates opportunity for all.”

The visit concluded with a renewed call for continued collaboration between government, civil society, and private organisations to strengthen advocacy efforts and expand initiatives aimed at empowering individuals with special needs across the state.
