Ohafia, Abia State – A serving Nigerian Army soldier, Lance Corporal Chukwu Ebuka, attached to the 14 Brigade in Ohafia, Abia State, has been arrested for allegedly robbing an unidentified victim of exactly N4,999,000 in a daring operation that involved axes and handcuffs.
A video currently making rounds on social media shows the soldier being grilled by a superior officer shortly after his apprehension. Looking visibly shaken and confused, Ebuka struggled to even confirm basic details about himself during the intense questioning.
When asked for his name, he muttered, “Lance Corporal Chukwu Ebuka.” The angry officer pressed him hard on why he carried out such a shameful act.

“How did you see what you did?” the superior demanded.
“It’s very, very wrong of me,” the soldier admitted, his voice cracking.
The officer did not hold back, blasting him for abandoning his duty post to “gallivant around” and terrorise innocent citizens.

“How can you go and carry someone for nothing? Look at the kind of axe you used on your fellow human being. And the ripping of everything he had,” the officer fumed while pointing at the recovered axes and handcuffs.
When asked how much was snatched from the victim, Ebuka replied without hesitation: “Four million nine hundred and ninety-nine thousand.”
The superior officer further rebuked him: “This is a handcuff you used on him for doing nothing against you because somebody called you. And you are a serving soldier!”
He lamented the damage the incident has done to the image of the Nigerian Army, saying, “It’s unfortunate. You guys are not representing us well. Some of you are not representing us well. I can imagine—that’s why at times they will be insulting us for nothing.”
Ebuka confessed that he acted with one other soldier identified as Ifeanyi, his senior colleague serving at the 13th Brigade. He admitted collecting N1.5 million as his share of the loot.
When confronted with the moral angle — how he would feel if his own younger brother was attacked, beaten with axes, handcuffed and forced to transfer such a huge sum — the soldier could only sigh, “It’s unfortunate.”
He openly admitted knowing the offence amounted to armed robbery: “I know, sir.” He described his action as “illegal” and “not right of me.”
NaijaChoice News findings confirm this disturbing case broke just hours ago, with the video already going viral across platforms. Multiple reports from SaharaReporters and other outlets align perfectly with the details circulating.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Army is yet to issue any official statement or confirm disciplinary action against the suspect. This silence has sparked fresh outrage among Nigerians who are already questioning the level of discipline and accountability within the force.
This latest scandal adds to growing concerns about rogue elements in the military, especially in the Southeast where similar cases of soldiers straying into crime have surfaced in recent times. Residents of Abia and beyond are now calling for swift and transparent investigation to restore public confidence in the Army.
The matter is expected to be handed over to appropriate authorities for full prosecution, but many are watching closely to see how the top brass will handle one of their own this time around.
