Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has unleashed a barrage of deadly cluster missiles on central Israel, describing the assault as direct revenge for Israel’s assassination of Iran’s top security official, Dr Ali Larijani.
NaijaChoice News reports that the overnight attack on Tuesday deployed multiple-warhead missiles, including the advanced Khorramshahr-4 and Qadr types fitted with cluster munitions capable of dispersing up to 80 bomblets each to overwhelm and evade Israel’s layered defence systems.
The strikes slammed into the Ramat Gan area near Tel Aviv, claiming the lives of two civilians identified as Yaron and Ilana Moshe, a couple in their 70s. Falling shrapnel wounded several others while causing widespread property damage, including at a Tel Aviv train station, Israeli media confirmed.

In an official statement broadcast on state television, the IRGC declared that the operation had exacted “revenge for the blood of martyr Dr. Ali Larijani and his companions.” The veteran politician, who served as secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, was killed alongside his son and other aides in an earlier Israeli airstrike, with funerals drawing massive crowds in Tehran this week.
Al Jazeera correspondent Nida Ibrahim, filing from Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, painted a grim picture of the night. “It was a difficult night in Israel,” she said, noting that the incoming cluster munitions sparked widespread alarm. The elderly couple, despite having a reinforced safe room in their home, could not reach it in time after the missile impact, raising serious questions about whether Israel’s air-raid sirens are activating quickly enough for residents to react.
The assault forms part of the raging US-Israel war against Iran now heading into its third week, during which Tehran has endured relentless daily airstrikes across its territory. Iranian authorities have also confirmed the death of Basij paramilitary force commander Gholamreza Soleimani in the same wave of assassinations.
Military observers say the heavy reliance on cluster-equipped ballistic missiles represents a clear escalation, as the bomblets spread destruction over wide areas and challenge even sophisticated interceptors.
As NaijaChoice News monitors the fast-moving developments, the conflict has already sent global oil prices soaring, with Brent crude climbing well above Nigeria’s 2026 budget benchmark. This surge is already fuelling fresh pressure on pump prices and energy supply in Nigeria, even as the country eyes possible revenue gains from higher crude exports amid the Strait of Hormuz tensions.
The region remains on edge, with both sides bracing for further retaliation as the war shows no immediate signs of de-escalation.
