Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has filed a N1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), challenging what he described as the unlawful invasion and search of his residence in Abuja.

The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/345/2026 and filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeks to nullify a search warrant issued by a magistrate court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on February 4.

The warrant authorised ICPC operatives to conduct a search and seize items at the former governor’s residence.

El-Rufai, through his legal team led by Oluwole Iyamu, is asking the court to declare the warrant invalid and set aside any action taken pursuant to it. He is also contesting the legality of the commission’s actions during the operation.

The former governor has been in the custody of the ICPC since Wednesday, February 18, in connection with ongoing investigations by the anti-corruption agency. Details of the investigation have not been officially disclosed.

On Thursday, his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, posted on social media that the Aso Drive residence of the former governor was raided by operatives of the commission.

“Ubong Akpan, Malam El- Rufai’s lawyer, condemned the action “as unlawful, and a clear violation of legal procedures and fundamental rights.”
