- Bandits Storm Oba Community In Kwara, Kill One, Kidnap Another

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday evening, has sent shockwaves through Isanlu-Isin and neighbouring communities, leaving residents in a state of fear and confusion. This latest attack comes barely hours after four kidnap victims regained their freedom in the same volatile axis.

Confirming the development on Wednesday night, Elder Oyin Zubair, Coordinator of the Joint Security Watch for Kwara South Senatorial District, painted a grim picture of the situation.
“Four people kidnapped along Omu-Aran Isanlu-Isin Road near the Correctional Centre on January 5, 2026, regained their freedom this afternoon,” he said.
Elder Zubair added that the released victims are currently receiving medical attention in hospitals in Ilorin and Omu-Aran.
As earlier reported by NaijaChoice News, the four individuals had been abducted along the Omu-Aran–Isanlu-Isin Road near the Correctional Centre before their release on Wednesday afternoon.
However, peace in the area proved short-lived as the bandits struck again on Tuesday evening along the same Correctional Centre Road in Ọba community.
“But in another twist of events, one person was killed and another one kidnapped yesterday evening on the Correctional Centre Road,” Elder Zubair revealed.
The fresh killing and abduction have heightened tension across Isanlu-Isin and surrounding areas, with many residents now living in constant fear of further attacks. Daily activities have been severely disrupted, including education, as parents and school authorities take precautionary measures.
“Residents of Isanlu-Isin and their neighbours are in a panicking mood as a result of which some schools have closed down,” Zubair lamented.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kwara State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the latest killing and abduction.
Rising Insecurity In Kwara South
This incident is the latest in a series of banditry and kidnapping cases plaguing Kwara State, particularly in the southern senatorial district. The Omu-Aran–Isanlu-Isin corridor, which links several communities to the state capital Ilorin, has become increasingly notorious for ambushes on travellers and residents.
Security analysts note that despite ongoing military operations, including efforts under initiatives like Operation SAVANAH SHIELD aimed at clearing forest hideouts used by criminals, bandits continue to exploit the vast forested areas linking Kwara North and South.
In recent weeks, similar attacks have been reported in communities across Kwara, with forest guards and innocent travellers often falling victim. The development has sparked calls for more proactive security measures, including increased patrols around key roads and the Correctional Centre area.
Residents are appealing to the state and federal governments to urgently address the worsening security situation before it escalates further.
