Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour Releases List of ADC LGA Chairmen in Lagos, Urges Unity Against ‘Mafia-Style’ Governance

In a bold move aimed at mobilizing grassroots support ahead of future elections, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV), the 2023 Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate for Lagos State and now a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has unveiled the list of ADC Local Government Area (LGA) Chairmen across Lagos. The announcement, made via a post on X (formerly Twitter), comes with a fervent call for Lagosians to set aside divisions and rally against what he termed a “thieving, demolition-government” that prioritizes personal enrichment over public welfare.

Rhodes-Vivour, who defected to the ADC in September 2025 amid internal LP challenges, emphasized the need for collective action in his statement. “This is not the time to be distracted. This is not the time to doubt. This is not the time to give in to divisive narratives and fighting each other, when we all have the same enemy,” he wrote. He highlighted how Nigerians, regardless of class, ethnicity, or ideology, are united in the hardships caused by poor governance.

Reflecting on the fallout from the 2023 elections, GRV pointed out real-life impacts such as insecurity, skyrocketing food and rent prices, and misplaced government spending priorities. He criticized expenditures on luxuries like yachts, jets, and cars – noting Lagos State’s alleged annual allocation of N20 billion for vehicles – while citizens struggle with stagnant incomes or unemployment. He also slammed the government’s use of violence and intimidation, referencing events from the EndSARS protests to the 2023 polls and even the recent “Lagos ADC declaration.”

Further, Rhodes-Vivour decried widespread demolitions in Lagos that have displaced thousands without compensation or relocation plans. Quoting the legendary Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, he described the current administration as one that brings only “Sorrow, tears and blood.” He urged a shift toward a “people-first government” that is accountable, empathetic, and focused on improving livelihoods for the majority.

“Now is the time to put our hands together to end this Mafia style, thieving, demolition-government, built on lies and propaganda,” GRV stated, calling on residents to contact their local ADC chairmen and get involved. The post, which has garnered thousands of views and engagements, included a photo symbolizing unity and was followed by the detailed list of chairmen.

The ADC’s strategy in Lagos appears to leverage GRV’s popularity from his 2023 campaign, where he positioned himself as a fresh alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Recent activities, including receiving defectors in Eti-Osa earlier this month, signal the party’s push for inclusivity, particularly among women and youth. However, GRV’s defection and the ADC’s growing presence have stirred mixed reactions, with some praising his resilience while others question the party’s viability against entrenched powers.

Critics on social media have raised concerns about the ethnic composition of the chairmen list, with one user noting a perceived imbalance that could fuel tribal narratives. For instance, a reply to GRV’s post claimed, “7 Igbos, 11 non-Yorubas in a 20 LGA chairman for ADC in Lagos… You and your people are not ready.” Such comments highlight ongoing debates about representation in Lagos politics, a state known for its diverse population.

Despite these criticisms, ADC leaders have defended their choices, with reports indicating the party is focused on building a broad coalition. Incidents like police allegedly blocking an ADC rally have also drawn attention, underscoring tensions in the political landscape.
