The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has screened 158 aspirants vying for the 24 seats in the State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 elections.

Addressing aspirants before the commencement of the exercise, Chairman of the Screening Committee, Professor Success Musa, attributed the high number of aspirants to the party’s popularity, internal democracy, and growing acceptance across the state.

Professor Musa said the large turnout was an indication of the democratic values represented by the APC. He assured aspirants that the screening process would be conducted fairly and transparently.

“I bring greetings from the national leadership of our great party and the National Working Committee. We were selected based on our credibility and entrusted with this assignment to ensure that every aspirant is properly screened,” he said.

Professor Musa also explained that the screening exercise was designed to prevent avoidable mistakes that could jeopardise the party’s electoral success.

Referring to the Bayelsa governorship case, he warned against documentation errors that could lead to legal setbacks after elections.

“We will screen all of you because we do not want what happened in Bayelsa State to happen again. We want to ensure every aspirant meets the requirements needed to contest,” he stressed.

The Screening Committee Chairman urged aspirants to cooperate with officials and advised aggrieved members to channel complaints through the party’s appeal committee.

“If you have any issue after the screening, kindly report to the Appeal Committee. Thereafter, support the winner. APC is a large family and we must continue to maintain peace,” he said.

According to him, the party will not allow avoidable documentation errors to undermine its chances at the polls.

“The process of obtaining nomination forms is over. The responsibility now lies with the party to properly screen and prepare aspirants for the election,” Fagbemi stated.

He added that the screening appeal committee would begin sitting immediately after the exercise to address grievances from aspirants.

Fagbemi reiterated the party’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and due process.

“It is not enough for justice to be done; it must also be seen to be done. That is what the party stands for,” he said.

An aspirant and Leader of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Magaji Oba Abdulkadir, commended the committee for conducting what he described as an orderly and seamless screening exercise.

Another aspirant, AbdulRasheed Akogun, said the process remained open and inclusive for all interested party members.

A female aspirant, Fatimah Jiyah, noted that about 30 percent of the aspirants were women, attributing the increased participation to the administration of AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s gender inclusion policies.
