- Kwara South 2027: Sola Ajimati Picks APC Senatorial Form
Chief Sola Ajimati, an All Progressives Congress chieftain with a background in engineering and youth diplomacy, has formally joined the race for the Kwara South Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections by obtaining the party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination Form in Abuja.
The aspirant collected the documents at the Ladi Kwali Hall of the Sheraton Hotel, responding to what he described as widespread calls from constituents seeking renewed representation in the district. Ajimati, who also serves as an African Union Youth Ambassador and Pan-Continental Diplomat, framed his ambition around practical solutions to the area’s persistent challenges, including community security, youth unemployment, women empowerment, agricultural modernisation, and rural infrastructure deficits.
Kwara South Senatorial District comprises seven local government areas: Ekiti, Oke-Ero, Offa, Ifelodun, Irepodun, Isin, and Oyun. The zone, with headquarters in Omu-Aran, has been represented in the current Senate by Lola Ashiru of the APC, who secured re-election in the 2023 polls with a strong margin. Ajimati’s entry introduces a contest dynamic within the ruling party as it prepares for internal screening and primaries.
Speaking after the formal purchase, Ajimati emphasised the urgency for transformative leadership. “The time has come for a new kind of leadership — bold, inclusive, and action-driven. Our people deserve safety, opportunity, and prosperity. This is our moment,” he stated. He pledged to leverage his international networks to attract investments and drive sustainable development, while highlighting his experience in youth mobilisation as an asset for effective advocacy at the National Assembly.
His campaign platform, tagged “Ajimati4Senate 2027,” is already generating traction particularly among younger voters across the district. This push aligns with a broader national conversation about injecting fresh perspectives into Nigeria’s politics, where many citizens continue to grapple with economic hardship, insecurity, and uneven infrastructure growth despite democratic gains since 1999.
In Nigeria’s current context, where high youth unemployment and rural underdevelopment fuel restiveness, aspirants like Ajimati are positioning themselves as bridges between governance and grassroots realities. Kwara State, long regarded as a political barometer in the North-Central region, has seen the APC maintain dominance since the 2019 ouster of the PDP-led administration. However, expectations remain high for tangible dividends in human capital and economic diversification, especially in agrarian communities that form the backbone of Kwara South.
Ajimati’s profile as an engineer and enterprise player adds a layer of technical competence often sought in legislative representation. His diplomatic credentials could prove relevant in an era when Nigerian lawmakers increasingly engage in parliamentary diplomacy to secure development partnerships. The timing of his declaration coincides with the APC’s recent rollout of a revised timetable for the 2027 cycle, which has opened the sale of nomination forms nationwide, setting the stage for competitive intra-party processes.
Political analysts observe that his move reflects a growing clamour for youth-centric representation in a country where over 60 percent of the population is under 35, yet older politicians still dominate key offices. In Kwara, where development indices in areas such as road networks, healthcare access, and skills acquisition lag behind potential, the contest for the Kwara South ticket could test the party’s ability to balance experience with innovation.
As more aspirants are expected to declare in the coming weeks, the APC faces the task of managing internal cohesion while projecting a people-focused agenda. Ajimati’s emphasis on security and economic opportunity addresses core voter concerns that have shaped recent elections across the federation.
The development highlights the intensifying preparations within Nigeria’s ruling party as the nation edges closer to another decisive electoral cycle.
