ABUJA, NIGERIA — Controversial activist and political commentator Deji Adeyanju has claimed that President Bola Tinubu is primarily worried about opposition from Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Adeyanju, the President and his allies harbour deep fears over potential surprises from the North, which he described as the only region capable of mounting a serious challenge to Tinubu’s re-election bid. He dismissed concerns from the South, stating that no southern political force currently worries the ruling camp.
The activist pointed to the ongoing anxiety around the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as evidence of this northern focus. He suggested that Tinubu believes northern leaders intend to replicate the treatment meted out to former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
Adeyanju further argued that only a determined northern bloc could checkmate any attempt at electoral manipulation in 2027, noting the region’s decisive political influence once it unites on a position. He contrasted this with the South, which he said is already “gone” in terms of opposition strength.
The comments come amid growing national discourse on political realignments and coalition talks as parties prepare for the next electoral cycle.
