ABUJA, NIGERIA — Stanley Osifo, a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Edo State, has acquired the party’s N100 million Presidential expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2027 general elections.
Osifo’s move confirms his bid for the APC presidential ticket, positioning him as a potential contender against President Bola Tinubu, who had earlier secured his own forms through a member of the House of Representatives, James Faleke.
A video released by the media aide to the APC National Chairman captured the moment Osifo completed payment and collected the documents in Abuja.
At a press conference shortly after, Osifo rejected suggestions that his ambition enjoys the backing of President Tinubu. He stated clearly that he has never received any financial support from the President and insisted his decision stems purely from personal conviction.
The Edo State APC leader added that endorsements by party figures cannot supersede the constitutional guidelines for selecting candidates. He expressed confidence in his resolve despite the growing support for the incumbent within the party.
The APC has fixed its presidential primary for May 23, 2026, as part of preparations for next year’s polls.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), all party primaries are expected to hold between April 23 and May 30, 2026.
Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, with governorship and state assembly elections following on February 6, 2027.
This latest development adds a new dimension to the emerging race within the APC, especially as politicians from different parts of the country begin to test the waters ahead of 2027.
As Nigeria’s political landscape heats up, Osifo’s entry highlights the internal dynamics playing out within the ruling party, even this early in the cycle.
NaijaChoice News will continue to monitor developments as more aspirants declare their intentions in the coming weeks.
The unfolding contest underscores the fluid nature of political alignments within the APC as the nation prepares for another crucial electoral season.
