  • ‘They are ritualist, fraudsters’: Ghanaians stage fresh protest, call for the deportation of Nigerians

A group of Ghanaians under the Concerned Youth Alliance, held a protest against illegal migration and what they described as the growing presence of foreign nationals, particularly, Nigerians, in Ghana.

The protest was staged on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Obra Spot in Accra, the capital of Ghana.

According to the group, the situation is contributing to rising insecurity and increasing unemployment, as they claim some foreigners are taking jobs that should be available to Ghanaian citizens.

Speaking during the protest, one of the women accused Nigerians of being fraudsters, ritual killers, and organ harvesters.

She further told her ‘sisters’ to wise up and look for other ways to make a living, saying that Nigerians are using them to destroy Ghana.

“Our women should wise up. Nigerians are using you to destroy Ghana. Nigerians are fraudsters, ritual killers, and organ harvesters,” she said

There have been increasing xenophobic tensions against Nigerians in Ghana. In July 2025, a group of Ghanaians, staged a protest, accusing Nigerians living in Ghana of prostitution and ritual killings.

In a viral video clip of the protest, a large crowd of protesters was seen holding placards with messages such as: “Nigeria must go,” “Armed robbery and violent attacks must stop,” “Our health is at risk due to mass prostitution,” “Who protects the rights and freedoms of Ghanaians?” “Nigerians are kidnapping and using people for rituals,” and “Our children are going missing because of the Igbos,” among others.

However, , the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, visited the country to de-escalate the situation.

During a joint press briefing in Ghana, the Minister called for peace, noting that relevant authorities in both Nigeria and Ghana are addressing the issue.

According to Mrs Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the viral video caused anxiety, necessitating her visit to the country for a firsthand assessment of the situation.

She, however, noted that contrary to the impressions created online, there were no visible signs of unrest, such as street protests or public demonstrations calling for the deportation of Nigerians.
