The campaign organisation of Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, All Progressives Congress candidate for the August 15 Osun State governorship election, has donated N1 million to Oladepo Caleb Olugbenga, the overall best graduating student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.
Oladepo, an indigene of Ijimoba in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State, earned a CGPA of 4.89 out of 5.0 in Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the university’s 18th convocation. He hails from a humble background in an agrarian community and publicly credited the Nigerian Education Loan Fund for supporting his studies.
Mr Remi Omowaiye, Chairman of the Media Committee of the Ambo Campaign Organisation and Executive Director of Project Implementation at the Federal Housing Authority, Abuja, announced the donation in a statement issued in Osogbo on Friday. He described the gesture as recognition of Oladepo’s dedication despite numerous challenges.
Omowaiye said Oyebamiji was impressed by the young man’s achievement and his openness about how NELFUND helped him overcome barriers. The statement highlighted that such stories demonstrate the potential of Nigerian youths when given necessary support.
The Ambo Campaign Organisation commended Oladepo for excelling amid distractions and struggles common to many students from rural areas in Osun and beyond. It noted his journey from walking long distances to school and studying under difficult conditions as inspiring for youths across the state.
“Asiwaju Oyebamiji has expressed readiness to support youths in Osun who show commitment to excellence in academics and other positive pursuits,” the statement added. The organisation pledged to continue providing assistance to help young people realise their ambitions.
The donation also serves as validation of the impact of NELFUND, an initiative of the President Bola Tinubu administration, on Nigeria’s education sector. Oladepo had taken to X to thank the fund, drawing widespread attention to his story.
This development comes as Osun prepares for the 2026 governorship poll, with education and youth empowerment expected to feature prominently in campaigns. Many residents view support for outstanding students as a signal of broader commitment to human capital development in the state.
NaijaChoice News gathered that the gesture aligns with ongoing efforts by political actors to connect with young achievers from Osun communities.
The recognition of Oladepo’s feat underscores the value of resilience and targeted support in shaping the future of Nigeria’s next generation of leaders.
