ENUGU, Nigeria — The Enugu State Government has disclosed that each Type 2 Primary Health Centre costs approximately N90 million to deliver fully functional.

This figure covers the building itself, medical equipment, solar power system, staff quarters, and perimeter fencing, according to Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, Secretary to the State Government.

The entire project for 260 such centres is estimated at N24 billion.

Prof. Onyia revealed the details while speaking on the administration’s health sector intervention.

He noted that 30 centres have already been completed and are now operational across the state.

Construction work on the remaining 230 facilities has reached completion stage, the SSG added.

Governor Peter Mbah has since approved the equipping of an additional 100 units to bring more centres into service.

This development comes as Enugu intensifies efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery, a critical need in many Nigerian communities where access to basic medical services remains limited.

The initiative forms part of broader moves to reduce pressure on secondary and tertiary hospitals in the state.

NaijaChoice News gathered that the solar-powered design aims to ensure uninterrupted services even in areas with poor electricity supply, a common challenge across Nigeria.

With 30 centres already serving residents and more set to come on stream, the project marks a significant step towards improving healthcare infrastructure at the grassroots.

The expansion of these Type 2 Primary Health Centres underscores Enugu’s commitment to accessible and reliable healthcare for its people.
