The Transmission Company of Nigeria has commissioned new turn-in-turn-out connections on the Ihovbor/Benin and Ihovbor/Ajaokuta 330kV transmission lines, enhancing the country’s power evacuation capacity.

The milestone project was completed at 19:05 hours on Wednesday, April 23, 2026, according to the agency.

Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, confirmed the development in an official statement.

The connections now fully deliver the Ihovbor transmission corridor, allowing better flow of electricity from major generation points into the national grid.

Currently, the Ihovbor/Benin line is transmitting 200MW while the Ihovbor/Ajaokuta line carries 90MW, Mbah said.

This upgrade is expected to improve overall efficiency in electricity supply and help meet rising demand across different parts of the country.

The new infrastructure provides additional evacuation support for key players such as the Niger Delta Power Holding Company and Azura Power.

In Nigeria’s power sector, where evacuation constraints have long limited the use of available generation capacity, such projects offer practical relief to generation companies.

TCN noted that the lines will strengthen grid stability and reduce the risk of disruptions, especially in areas linked to the Ihovbor power plant.

The initiative forms part of ongoing work to modernise the national transmission network.

NaijaChoice News understands that reliable transmission remains central to delivering steady power to homes and industries nationwide.

The successful commissioning of these 330kV lines represents another concrete step towards unlocking Nigeria’s power potential and delivering more reliable electricity to citizens.
