Dr. Essien made it abundantly clear that no lecturer is permitted to demand gifts, favors, or sexual relationships in exchange for grades. “I encourage you to report any form of sexual pressure from lecturers to the management or the Anti-Sexual Harassment Unit. This institution frowns at the exchange of gifts for marks,” she stated firmly.
She assured the students that all reports would be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate sanctions would be imposed on offenders, fostering a safe learning environment.
Cultism, Exam Malpractice Banned
Extending her warnings beyond harassment, the Rector cautioned students against involvement in cultism, examination malpractice, and any antisocial behaviors. She stressed that the Polytechnic aims to produce graduates of integrity who can defend their certificates globally.
“We have zero tolerance for cultism and examination malpractice because we want to produce graduates with integrity,” Dr. Essien added, urging students to abide by the institution’s policies to avoid tarnishing its reputation.
No Handout Sales Allowed
Dr. Essien also reminded everyone that the sale of handouts by lecturers is strictly prohibited. Students are advised to purchase only approved textbooks in accordance with the Polytechnic’s academic guidelines.
She encouraged all students to familiarize themselves with the school’s rules, regulations, and disciplinary procedures, noting that ignorance would not serve as an excuse for violations.
Skills Over Certificates
The Rector assured the new intakes that under her leadership, the learning environment would be safe, disciplined, and student-centered. She highlighted the emphasis on practical skills acquisition through the institution’s mandatory skills program.
“The world is no longer just about certificates. It’s about what you can offer,” she remarked, preparing students for real-world challenges beyond academics.
