KATSINA, NIGERIA — The political landscape in Katsina State shifted significantly on Wednesday as Yusuf Muhammadu Buhari formally declared his bid for the House of Representatives.
The son of the former president announced his intention to contest the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency seat under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to statements from the state government, the declaration took place during a high-profile visit to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda at the Government House in Katsina.
Yusuf was accompanied by a powerful delegation of political heavyweights and traditional leaders. Hon. Musa Haro, the District Head of Dumurkul, led the group, describing the younger Buhari as a “patriotic young leader” whose candidacy represents the collective yearning of his constituents for quality representation.
The move marks a major entry into the 2027 electoral cycle for the Daura zone. NaijaChoice News gathered that the delegation sought the Governor’s “guidance and blessings” as the party begins to align its interests ahead of the next general elections.
During the visit, the Minister of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa, lauded the move, noting that it reflects a growing wave of youth participation in Nigerian governance. She urged the aspirant to maintain a focus on innovation and inclusive development.
Further endorsements came from Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu General, representing Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency, who expressed confidence in Yusuf’s capacity to consolidate the APC’s influence in the state. Similarly, Hon. Fatihu Muhammad noted that the aspirant’s vision is centered on grassroots empowerment and youth welfare.
Responding to the delegation, Governor Radda maintained a neutral but supportive stance, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to internal democracy and fairness within the APC.
The Governor advised the aspirant to consult widely across the three local government areas of the constituency and to approach the political process with humility. He stressed that party cohesion remains the priority for the Katsina APC as 2027 approaches.
Observers note that this declaration is likely to set the tone for future primary contests in the North-West, given the aspirant’s significant family pedigree and the strategic importance of the Daura constituency.
The declaration signals an early start to the 2027 political season in Katsina, highlighting the intensifying internal consultations within the ruling party.
