KANO, NIGERIA — The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has launched a fresh phase of his grassroots empowerment initiative by distributing 47 Sharon cars and 282 Boxer motorcycles to constituents in the Kano North Senatorial District.
The distribution exercise, which took place on Wednesday, targeted leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the local government level, including chairmen, secretaries, and several former party officials within the zone.
Representing the Deputy Senate President, his Chief of Staff, Professor Muhammad Abdullahi, stated that the initiative is designed to foster self-reliance among the beneficiaries. He noted that the gesture is part of a broader strategy to stimulate human development and ease the daily challenges faced by party faithful in the region.
During the ceremony, Abdullahi addressed recent political tensions, dismissing critics of the Senator. According to him, the leadership remains focused on delivering tangible benefits to the people despite “calculated attacks” from detractors.
NaijaChoice News reports that the vehicles and motorcycles are intended to serve as tools for economic advancement. Beneficiaries were strictly advised by the Senate leadership not to sell the items but to utilize them for income generation to support their families.
Shittu Madaki, the Media Aide to Senator Barau, confirmed the volume of the items, adding that the current distribution is a precursor to further interventions planned for the district.
Adding a national perspective to the event, the State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Agenda, Salihu Takai, likened the Senator’s efforts to the poverty alleviation goals of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Takai emphasized that the intervention brings the federal government’s developmental agenda directly to the grassroots.
Observers in Kano note that such high-scale distributions have become a hallmark of Senator Barau’s political engagement in the North-West. The move is widely seen as a strategy to solidify party loyalty and provide a social safety net for local political administrators.
The event concluded with a formal handover of the keys to the local government representatives, marking another chapter in the Senator’s ongoing human capital development program for Kano North.
This massive distribution underscores the intensifying efforts by ranking lawmakers to balance their legislative duties in Abuja with direct economic interventions in their home constituencies.
