LAGOS, Nigeria – NNPC Trading delivered more than 1.08 billion litres of crude oil to the Dangote Refinery in April 2026, marking a sharp rise in local feedstock support for Africa’s largest single-train facility.

NaijaChoice News analysis of tanker movements confirms the volume hit 1.03 million metric tonnes, or roughly 6.8 million barrels, through eight cargoes handled solely by the state oil firm’s trading arm.

The shipments drew from key Nigerian streams including Anyala, Bonga, Odudu, Forcados, Qua Iboe and Utapate, all routed through the refinery’s offshore Single Point Mooring systems at Lekki.

Five of the cargoes have been fully discharged while three others are still awaiting berthing or final unloading, keeping a steady flow into storage tanks.

The increase comes even as the 650,000-barrels-per-day plant has repeatedly flagged supply gaps, requiring up to 19 cargoes monthly for full operations. Nigeria still imported 55.39 million barrels of crude in the first two months of the year.

Aliko Dangote had earlier disclosed that NNPC doubled supplies to 10 cargoes in March, with six paid in naira and four in dollars, as the country moved to shield domestic fuel availability after Middle East disruptions.

Additional crude arrived from international traders, including large parcels from the United States and Cameroon, alongside smaller domestic lifts from Ugo Ocha, Escravos and Anyala fields.

The refinery also took in several blendstock and premium motor spirit cargoes from the United Kingdom, France, Norway and Togo to support gasoline production, with one more blendstock vessel still pending.

Vessel data show most tankers berthed within one to two days and sailed shortly after discharge, pointing to smoother operations at the Lekki terminals.

Industry sources say the sustained NNPC commitment reinforces Nigeria’s push to cut fuel imports, create local jobs and strengthen energy security under ongoing downstream reforms.
