Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has formally resigned from his position, confirming earlier indications that he would step down to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State.

In a resignation letter dated April 22, 2026, addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Adelabu said his exit would take effect on April 30, 2026, to allow for a smooth transition in the power ministry.

He expressed gratitude to the president for the opportunity to serve and highlighted key reforms undertaken during his tenure, including efforts to stabilise electricity generation and strengthen Nigeria’s power sector.

Adelabu also noted that his decision was driven by his long-standing political ambition in Oyo State, in line with electoral requirements for public office holders.

His resignation follows a recent meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where he presented a final briefing on his stewardship and secured approval to proceed with his gubernatorial bid.

The development marks a significant political shift as the former minister prepares to enter the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State.
