Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria – Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel was barred from an All Progressives Congress stakeholders meeting in Ijebu-Ode on Monday. The former Ogun State governor and current Ogun East senator arrived at Adeola Odutola Hall but could not gain entry despite attempts by his team to negotiate at the gate.
NaijaChoice News gathered that the incident happened amid rising tension between Daniel and Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun. Both men are from Ogun East and are said to be eyeing the senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
Daniel, who is seeking a second term in the Senate, reached the venue as early as 10am. A viral video on social media showed his bus blocked at the entrance while some supporters tried to resolve the standoff.
The meeting was called to discuss key party matters, including the Ogun East senatorial ticket. Sources close to the caucus said major decisions were expected.
Speaking to his supporters outside the hall, Daniel expressed disappointment. “Today is our caucus meeting in Ijebu-Ode. I got here since 10:00 a.m., but they said I cannot enter,” he said.
He warned that any decision taken without him would not stand. “If they take any decision here today without my participation, it will be null and void. Let them continue,” Daniel added.
The development has further exposed the rift within the Ogun APC. Political watchers in the state say the face-off could affect party unity as preparations for future polls gather pace.
Daniel’s camp insists the senator remains a major stakeholder in Ogun East politics. No official statement has come from the APC state leadership on the barring.
