ABUJA, Nigeria – The Peoples Democratic Party will today hold its 108th National Executive Committee meeting at the national secretariat in Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

NaijaChoice News reports that the session comes barely a week after police unsealed the headquarters following months of closure.

Party officials say the NEC gathering will focus on key organisational matters now that the faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed has firm control of the secretariat.

The building was sealed in November last year after a violent clash at the premises between the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee and the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led caretaker committee.

An Appeal Court judgment delivered in March this year nullified the Ibadan convention that produced the Turaki-led executive.

The Mohammed-led group, which draws strong support from Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, relied on that ruling to organise its own convention in Abuja and take charge of party affairs.

Today’s NEC meeting is expected to attract only members aligned with the Mohammed faction.

Prominent figures billed to attend include Wike, former Senate President Bukola Saraki and former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.

Party sources told NaijaChoice News the session will help consolidate the current leadership structure ahead of further internal reforms.
