Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has taken a sharp swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, calling him a habitual presidential contender who repeatedly falls short at the polls.
The remarks came during a Thursday inspection of ongoing road projects across Abuja, where Wike brushed off Atiku’s criticism of the Tinubu administration as baseless.
NaijaChoice News reports that the minister pointed to visible infrastructure gains in the FCT as proof that the claims are out of touch with realities on the ground.
Wike insisted Nigerians would not take Atiku’s comments seriously, stressing that the ex-vice president’s repeated unsuccessful election bids have weakened his voice on national issues.
He challenged Atiku to compare the state of Abuja during his time in office with the massive projects now underway, saying the difference is clear for all to see.
The minister warned that political rhetoric must not derail governance, noting that contractors are focused on timelines rather than election seasons.
He assured that development work will push ahead without pause despite the distractions.
Wike gave updates on two flagship roads, disclosing that the Airport-Kuje project is nearing completion with part of the bridge opening for use in days and full handover expected before the end of May.
He said the first phase of the Kuje-Gwagwalada dualisation, spanning about seven kilometres, is equally on track for the same May deadline and expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work.
Wike denied any FCT Administration interference in the African Democratic Congress convention, demanding evidence from the party, and revealed that over 80 percent of ongoing infrastructure projects would be completed before January next year.
