Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule on Friday led Senator Aliyu Ahmed Wadada to the Presidential Villa in Abuja. There, he formally presented the lawmaker to President Bola Tinubu as the All Progressives Congress consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The visit caps days of intense political activity in Lafia. Sule had earlier declared Wadada his preferred successor during a closed-door meeting with political appointees and heads of government agencies at the Government House.
The governor told the gathering that the hunt for a worthy successor lasted more than one year. He said wide consultations reached beyond Nasarawa State and involved foreign and local investors, youth groups, women organisations, traditional rulers, party officials and stakeholders from the three senatorial districts.
Sule narrowed the list to three capable aspirants before settling on Wadada. He described the senator as the embodiment of the “Muje Maha” spirit of inclusive governance that has defined his own administration and urged all APC members to close ranks behind him.
Senator Wadada represents Nasarawa West in the 10th National Assembly and chairs the Senate Committee on Public Accounts. He defected from the Social Democratic Party to the APC in August 2025.
Party sources told NaijaChoice News the presentation to President Tinubu underscores the APC’s push for seamless succession and unity across states ahead of the 2027 polls. Sule is said to have assured the President of Nasarawa’s continued support for the Tinubu administration.
The endorsement has already triggered fresh alignment moves among APC loyalists in the state. Observers say it positions Wadada as the frontrunner, though the final ticket will still go through party primaries.
