The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has secured the conviction of Remilekun Temitope Balogun-Okedeyi for forging documents from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control to secure a United Kingdom visa.

NaijaChoice News reports that the defendant presented fake employment and promotion letters, an identity card and an introduction letter supposedly issued by NAFDAC. Investigations confirmed she was never employed by the agency.

She also submitted a falsified bank statement from Chanelle Microfinance Bank covering January to July 2025. The commission established that she held no account with the bank.

The case, with charge number ID/27346C/2025, started from a petition by the British Deputy High Commission. It exposed a visa racketeering syndicate allegedly led by Olusegun Ojo Adigun and linked to at least 16 fraudulent UK visa applications.

Proceedings took place at the Ikeja Special Offences Court before Justice Mojisola Dada. The defendant, through her counsel Grace Adenubi, opted for a plea bargain, leading to an amended one-count charge to which she pleaded guilty.

Prosecutors Yvonne William-Mbata, Roseline Eze and Oluwayemisi Pereira presented evidence through investigator Onyemauchechukwu Ezike. The court sentenced Balogun-Okedeyi to one year in prison or a N500,000 fine payable to the Federal Government within seven days.

She must also perform two days of community service outside the court premises and enter a bond of good behaviour, to be recorded in the Lagos State Judiciary database.

The conviction comes as UK visa fraud continues to draw sharp scrutiny on Nigerian applicants. Many genuine travellers face tougher checks and delays because of such scams, which tarnish the country’s image abroad.

ICPC officials described the judgment as part of a broader push against document forgery and impersonation of federal agencies like NAFDAC. The agency vowed to sustain pressure on visa racketeers operating in Lagos and beyond.
