US Is Set To Resume Negotiation With Iran

Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Army Chief, has arrived in Tehran leading a high-powered delegation to advance mediation between the United States and Iran.

The team includes Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and other senior officials. Pakistan’s military media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations, confirmed the visit forms part of continued efforts to end the conflict.

NaijaChoice News reports that the delegation will deliver a fresh message from Washington to Iranian leaders and prepare ground for the next round of direct talks. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi personally received the visitors at the airport.

The move comes days after the first round of negotiations in Islamabad ended without agreement last weekend. Both sides blamed each other for the deadlock, with the United States pointing to Iran’s refusal to abandon its nuclear programme and Tehran accusing Washington of making excessive demands.

Iranian officials say messages have continued flowing through Pakistan since Sunday. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei stressed that Iran will not accept any “dictation or imposition” from the other side.

Meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif left for official visits to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Türkiye on the same day. The trips are aimed at rallying support for regional peace and security, the Pakistani Foreign Office stated.

US President Donald Trump told The New York Post that a second round of talks could hold in Islamabad “over the next two days.” He urged American officials to remain in the region as developments unfold.

The conflict erupted on February 28 after joint US and Israeli strikes on Iran. The attacks have since paralysed global energy markets and disrupted international trade routes.

For Nigeria, the crisis carries direct economic risks. As a major oil exporter, fresh spikes in crude prices could worsen fuel costs and strain the national budget already battling inflation and naira pressure.
