Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has told his former principal, Atiku Abubakar, that the President will defeat him once more in the 2027 election.
Bwala, who served as Atiku’s spokesman during the 2023 presidential campaign, reacted sharply to the former Vice President’s recent claim that a coalition candidate would render Tinubu “dead on arrival.” He reminded Atiku that the same governors, states and structures that backed the PDP flagbearer in 2023 are now with the ruling APC.
NaijaChoice News reports that Bwala urged Atiku not to take offence, stressing that the opposition coalition lacks the muscle to challenge Tinubu’s growing political machine.
The presidential aide described the emerging alliance as a gathering of aggrieved “stateless” leaders. He said Tinubu would likely not even bother to check the election scoreboard on voting day.
Bwala’s statement reads in part: “My former boss @atiku said ‘with a coalition candidate, President Tinubu @officialABAT is dead on arrival. Lol. But we know you are the coalition candidate YET (no vex sir), he defeated you in 2023 when you had governors, states, and structures. These governors, states and structures are with him.”
The remark comes as opposition figures intensify talks of a united front ahead of the 2027 polls. Several politicians who lost out in previous elections have been linked to the African Democratic Congress and other platforms pushing for a single candidate against the APC.
Political watchers in Abuja say Bwala’s intervention reflects the deep divisions within the opposition and the steady defections tilting the balance toward the ruling party.
Tinubu’s camp believes the President’s performance and strategic alliances have weakened the coalition’s chances before any ballot is cast.
Bwala’s message has sparked fresh debate on social media and in party circles about the real strength of any anti-Tinubu alliance.
Analysts note that such public exchanges between former allies underscore the fluid nature of Nigerian politics as the country prepares for another major electoral season.
