ABUJA – Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu on Tuesday officially resumed duties as National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party at the party’s national headquarters in Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
The development comes barely weeks after the Wike-backed faction of the PDP elected him and Abdulrahman Mohammed as substantive National Chairman and Secretary at its March 2026 national convention in Abuja. Party insiders say the resumption is part of moves to stabilise the leadership following months of internal wrangling and court battles that had left the secretariat in dispute.
NaijaChoice News gathered that the event coincided with plans for an immediate National Working Committee meeting, the first under the new team. Sources at the secretariat described the atmosphere as one of cautious optimism as the leadership seeks to close ranks ahead of future political engagements.
Marking the start of his second tenure in the role, prayers were offered at the headquarters to dedicate the office and seek divine direction. The brief but symbolic ceremony, attended by top party officials, underscored the Nigerian tradition of invoking spiritual backing for leadership responsibilities.
Party leaders who spoke to NaijaChoice News described the moment as a fresh beginning. They stressed renewed commitment to unity, discipline and effective administration within the PDP.
Observers note that the resumption sets the tone for a more proactive phase in the opposition party’s affairs. With the 2027 general elections on the horizon, stakeholders expect the new National Working Committee to focus on reconciliation, membership drive and strategic repositioning to strengthen the PDP’s place in Nigeria’s political landscape.
