Abia Governor Otti Counters Critics with Massive Projects

Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti has continued to deliver massive infrastructural transformation, deploying completed roads, health facilities, schools and power projects as direct answers to opposition criticisms and political noise.

NaijaChoice News reports that the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ctz Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, on April 4, 2026, reeled out an extensive scorecard of over 110 projects executed or advanced under the Otti administration, describing them as “visible responses to opposition noise and frustration.” The detailed list, which the CPS stressed is not exhaustive, underscores the governor’s philosophy that the best reply to critics is more work for the people of Abia.

In the commercial city of Aba alone, the governor has completed iconic roads including Port Harcourt Road, Ohanku Road, People’s Road, Emelogu Road, Kent Road, Umuoba Road, Ndoki Road, Ovom Road with its erosion control, Elizabeth Avenue, Toonak Drive, College Road, Umule Road, University Road, Queens Avenue, Umuode Road, MCC Road, Cemetery Road, Asa Road, Abak Road, Obiora Road, Echte Road, Obohia Road, Enyimba Ariaria, Bakassi Ariaria, Omuma Road, Umuimo Road and Jubilee Road, among others. Major arteries linking Umuahia and surrounding areas such as Aguiyi Ironsi Boulevard, Library Avenue, Abiriba Ring-Road, Umuahia-Abiriba Road, Abiriba-Ohafia Road and several internal roads in Umuahia have also been delivered.

Beyond the cities, the administration completed the Omenuko Bridge, Ozu Abam-Arochukwu Road, Abiriba-Nkporo Road stretches and multiple internal roads in Ohafia, Arochukwu, Isiukwuato, Umunneochi, Isialangwa North and South, and Obingwa LGAs. Ongoing works include Owaza Road in Ukwa West, Ariam Usaka Road, Nunya Road in Isiukwuato, Mbala-Ngodo Road, Onuimo to Tower Road dualisation (90 percent complete), Owerrinta to Umuikaa Road dualisation, Umuaduro to 7up Road in Obingwa, Abayi-Umungasi Road, Ekeakpara Road in Osisioma, Abiriba-Nkporo Road and Ohafia to Arochukwu Road.

NaijaChoice News findings confirm several of these feats align with recent official commissions. For instance, the Port Harcourt Road in Aba, a major campaign promise, has been fully rebuilt, while the Omenuko Bridge and 30-kilometre Arochukwu corridor were commissioned earlier this year alongside retired Lt. Gen. Ihejirika. The governor has also flagged off reconstruction of the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Highway and taken over select federal roads handed over by the Federal Government to accelerate connectivity.

On the power and utility front, the administration completed the Geometric Power Plant Road and Ultimum Beverages Plant Road, installed over 10,000 solar streetlights, distributed more than 60 transformers and restored electricity to 33 communities in Ukwa West. The revamping of the CKC water project in Aba has reached 90 percent completion while work on the Umuahia Water Project is ongoing. Deal for the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has been concluded and is ready for payment, setting the stage for improved power supply across the state.

Health and education sectors have equally witnessed unprecedented attention. Two hundred Primary Healthcare Centres have been delivered across the 184 wards while 221 public schools are under reconstruction, with some already completed. Twenty smart schools are at various stages, three already handed over. The government hired and onboarded 5,394 teachers with another 4,000 in the pipeline, and almost 700 medical professionals have been recruited. Construction of brand new Abam General Hospital, Ukwa East General Hospital, Amachara Specialist Hospital, Phase 2 of Abia State University Teaching Hospital and upgrading of seven general hospitals to specialist status are all progressing. Hostels at Abia State University have been renovated and new faculties, cafeteria and 10,000-bed hostels are underway.

Other landmark deliveries include the Ukwa Civic Centre, Umuahia and Aba Central Bus Terminals (the latter ongoing), 70 bus shelters in Aba and Umuahia, 17 modern courts, renovation of Okpara Auditorium, ICC, Emeka Omeruo Guest House and Presidential Lodge, reconstruction of 17 Local Government Headquarters, SSG Office Complex, Budget and Planning Office, GADA Office and GODA Office. The Aba Prison is being upgraded while the Government House Clinic, new Faculty of Law and Faculty of Agriculture projects advance. Erosion control projects, including Alayi, and several recovery initiatives have been tackled.

Economic revival moves feature the acquisition of Afro Beverages and Star Paper Mill from AMCON. Compensation payments for Abia Airport Project land, Abia Industrial Innovative Park land and Abia Medical City land have either been completed or are ongoing, with runway construction at the airport already in full swing.

The CPS, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, noted that the list represents only a dress rehearsal of what the Otti administration has achieved, adding: “Indeed, help is here!”

This aggressive delivery drive comes as Governor Otti repeatedly insists that his response to opposition criticism remains “more work.” Recent independent assessments, including World Bank commendation of Abia’s primary healthcare reforms, reinforce the momentum. With the 2026 budget of acceleration and new possibilities already signed into law and a 25-year development plan unveiled, Abia residents say the governor is not just building roads and hospitals but laying the foundation for a new Abia that works for all.
