Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, has sharply refuted claims that Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya asked him to drop his 2027 gubernatorial ambition.
The denial came hours after Theo Abu Agada, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) widely described as disgraced by critics, posted a “FLASH” on his X handle claiming the governor made the request during a stakeholders meeting held Monday night at the Gombe State Government House. Agada alleged Pantami was unhappy with the directive and was being pressured to support an APC consensus candidate.
Pantami, who quoted Agada’s post directly, dismissed the story as false. “This is not true. Nothing like this happened. The Governor did not ask anyone to drop their ambition. In fact, the Gov. gave me a special recognition by inviting me to be among the speakers at the event,” he wrote on his verified X account.
The respected scholar and APC loyalist did not stop at the denial. He turned the tables on his accuser with a stern warning: “For your information, @TheoAbuAgada, you will never be successful with your evil agenda. If Allah (God) is with you, no evil plan will defeat you.”
The exchange has dominated social media discussions in Gombe and beyond, with many Pantami supporters accusing Agada of peddling fake news to undermine the former minister’s growing political profile. Several replies to Agada’s post described him as a member of the ADC media team allegedly deployed to spread disinformation against APC figures.
Pantami’s strong response comes at a time when political temperature in Gombe State is rising ahead of the 2027 governorship election. The former minister revalidated his APC membership in February 2026 and has been actively mobilising grassroots support across the state. His backers, popularly known as “Pantamiyya,” believe he remains a top contender to succeed Governor Yahaya, who will complete his second term in 2027.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya has on previous occasions publicly praised Pantami’s contributions to national development, especially in the digital economy and education sectors. Recent engagements between the two have shown mutual respect, contrary to Agada’s narrative.
Political observers note that the alleged “consensus candidate” push within the APC has become a recurring issue in Gombe politics, but Pantami’s camp insists he is very much in the race and enjoys wide popularity among the people.
As at press time, neither the Gombe State Government nor the APC has issued an official statement on the matter. However, the swift and direct rebuttal from Pantami himself has left little room for doubt among his supporters that the claim was fabricated.
