Two Abia North constituents have jetted off to China for specialised training under the Belt and Road Initiative, courtesy of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
NaijaChoice News reports that Offor Basil Chiadikaobi from Umunneochi Local Government Area and Igwe Samuel Isaiah from Bende Local Government Area are now in China attending the Training Programme on Opening-Up and Economic Cooperation for Belt and Road Countries.
The programme, a key component of China’s multi-trillion-dollar global infrastructure drive, equips participants with practical skills in international economic collaboration, trade policies and development strategies.
Senator Kalu, who represents Abia North in the Red Chamber, described the sponsorship as part of his long-standing push for human capital development and youth empowerment across the district.
“This continued participation reflects our sustained commitment to human capital development, youth empowerment, and global exposure across Abia North,” Kalu said in a statement from his office.
He commended the two men for representing the constituency on the world stage and charged them to return with ideas that can drive local progress.
The senator has built a reputation as a champion of capacity building. As former governor of Abia State, he invested heavily in education, constructed and renovated hundreds of schools, and has continued similar interventions as a senator, including earlier scholarship programmes to China.
Nigeria’s partnership with China under the Belt and Road Initiative, which the country formally joined in 2018, has already produced gains in infrastructure, trade and skills transfer. Recent collaborations, including energy and lithium projects linked to Abia interests, show deepening ties that go beyond politics.
Kalu urged the delegates to maximise the opportunity for learning and networking.
“Fly the flag of Abia North proudly and bring back knowledge that will contribute meaningfully to our collective development,” he added.
The beneficiaries are expected to return better equipped to support economic growth, policy formulation and youth-led initiatives back home in Abia North.
