The Wike-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party has directed its members to disregard a recent meeting between the Tanimu Turaki-led group and the African Democratic Congress.
PDP National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed issued the directive in a statement on Wednesday, stressing that the PDP did not authorise the engagement.
He made it clear that the party has held no formal or informal talks with the ADC or its representatives.
“Those who participated in the meeting did so in their personal capacities and cannot be considered as representing the PDP,” Mohammed said.
The faction urged party members and the Nigerian public to ignore all claims from the meeting, describing them as baseless and unreflective of the party’s official position.
It added that preparations for the PDP primaries are advancing smoothly, with timelines and guidelines to be communicated in due course.
“The party remains focused on its internal processes and its commitment to credible leadership for Nigerians,” the statement concluded.
NaijaChoice News reports that the Turaki-led faction had earlier on Wednesday paid a solidarity visit to the David Mark-led ADC.
The closed-door session, which ran from 5pm to 7pm at the ADC leader’s residence in Abuja, focused on national developments and prospects for inter-party cooperation.
Key figures at the meeting included former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, former governors Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Aminu Tambuwal and Rotimi Amaechi, as well as Prof. Jerry Gana and Babangida Aliyu.
ADC National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola and former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami also joined the deliberations.
The engagement comes amid the prolonged leadership crisis rocking the PDP, with the two factions locked in legal battles over party control and recognition by INEC.
Political observers see the move as part of wider efforts by opposition heavyweights to explore alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Wike faction, however, insists the PDP will not be drawn into such arrangements at this stage.
