The naming ceremony of Yoruba Nollywood actress Toyosi Adesanya’s newborn daughter has turned into a deeply emotional public moment, after her husband, Bola Oyinadejobi, revealed the harrowing medical and emotional ordeal the couple endured before the child’s arrival.
Speaking at the ceremony with visible emotion, Oyinadejobi disclosed that his wife underwent four surgeries in 2023 alone, nearly losing her life during the final procedure. He credited divine intervention for bringing them through a season he said most people had no knowledge of.
“God is so kind. He shut the mouths of hypocrisy when they thought it was over. Many didn’t know that in 2023, my wife underwent four surgeries and almost died during the last one,” he said, expressing profound gratitude.
The couple welcomed their daughter through surrogacy. A resurfaced video of Toyosi recounting her fertility struggles has since gone viral, in which she revealed that her journey to motherhood began as far back as 2008, spanning a laparoscopy, a dye test, and multiple failed IVF attempts. At one point, she sold all her gold jewellery and drew funds from her boutique to finance one of the IVF cycles, which also proved unsuccessful.
The birth has attracted an outpouring of support from colleagues in the Yoruba film industry. Antar Laniyan, Bimbo Oshin, Folorunsho Adeola, and Odunlade Adekola all paid visits to the family home, with Adekola’s visit drawing particular attention online after footage showed him lifting spirits in the room. Veteran actress Peju Ogunmola also visited and was photographed cradling the infant — a moment that resonated deeply with many, given that Ogunmola lost her only child last year.
Actor Muyiwa Ademola sent a cash gift of N200,000 to the baby, which Toyosi confirmed was the first deposit made into her daughter’s account, describing him as a steadfast supporter from the outset.
During actress Fausat Balogun’s visit, Toyosi made a candid admission that there had been no money in the house on the day her daughter was born, and expressed heartfelt gratitude to Balogun for her prayers and unwavering support throughout the ordeal.
In a video shared after the birth, Toyosi thanked her husband for standing resolutely by her side through every painful chapter of the journey, and assured that children born prior to the new baby would continue to be well cared for.
