The Kogi State Polytechnic community in Lokoja is in fresh mourning after the sudden death of lecturer Mr Anslem Ojodomo.
NaijaChoice News gathered that Ojodomo collapsed while delivering a lecture to students on Thursday, March 26, 2026. The classroom session turned chaotic as he slumped mid-sentence, sending students into panic. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors tried desperately to revive him, but he was later confirmed dead.
This latest loss is the third recorded at the institution in just six weeks. It follows the February death of Dr Barnabas Akuba, who passed away shortly after completing his PhD programme.
Staff sources told NaijaChoice News that both Ojodomo and Akuba had recently defended their PhD theses, raising fresh concerns within the polytechnic. The deaths have triggered apprehension among lecturers and students since Prof Salihu Sanusi assumed office as Rector on February 11.
One staff member who spoke on condition of anonymity described Ojodomo as energetic and full of life. “He was in a meeting some hours before going for the lecture. We cannot imagine that a man who was bubbling and full of life in the meeting is now dead,” the source said.
Another insider recounted the incident: “The lecturer suddenly slumped while addressing the students, throwing the class into confusion and panic. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention but was later confirmed dead despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life.”
Ojodomo, a respected figure in the Department of Public Administration, had also served as Deputy Dean of Student Affairs. Colleagues described him as dedicated and approachable, making his passing even more painful for the campus.
As of press time, the management of Kogi State Polytechnic is yet to issue any official statement on the incident. The repeated losses have left many questioning staff welfare and the pressures of academic life in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The polytechnic community continues to grapple with the shock, with calls for better health support for lecturers gaining quiet momentum on campus.
