Controversial street-pop singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has sparked outrage after warning fellow Yorubas of spiritual consequences if they oppose President Bola Tinubu’s second term.
NaijaChoice News reports that the Zazu crooner made the remarks in a viral video circulating on social media platforms since Saturday. He positioned himself as an official campaigner for the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Portable stressed the need for peace in the country and tied it directly to Tinubu’s return to power. “We need peace, we want peace. If you don’t want war in Nigeria, you better vote for Tinubu,” he said.
He then invoked traditional deities in a direct threat to his kinsmen. “Thunder and Ogun will strike any Yoruba man who doesn’t,” Portable declared.
The singer claimed the APC has formally contracted him for the job. “I have been signed, given APC clothes — don’t worry, I will soon start sharing rice and vegetable oil,” he added.
The video has triggered sharp backlash online, with many Nigerians slamming the use of curses and ethnic pressure in politics. Critics described the comments as divisive and unbecoming of a public figure.
Portable, who rose to fame with his raw Lagos street sound, has a long record of controversial outbursts. His latest move comes as political activities quietly intensify ahead of the 2027 polls, even though the Independent National Electoral Commission has not yet issued guidelines.
No official response has come from the APC or the Presidency on the singer’s claims. Observers say such endorsements highlight the mix of celebrity influence, traditional beliefs, and early campaign tactics that often shape Nigerian elections.
As the countdown to 2027 begins, many Yoruba voices are already calling for calm and issue-based politics instead of spiritual threats.
