Senegal President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has sent a bold signal of defiance to the Confederation of African Football.
The young leader quietly updated his official social media profiles, placing the AFCON 2025 trophy clearly visible behind him on what appears to be a library shelf.
The gesture came just days after CAF stripped Senegal of the continental crown and handed Morocco a retrospective 3-0 win.
NaijaChoice News reports that this presidential move backs the Teranga Lions’ refusal to surrender the physical trophy, which coach Pape Thiaw has since moved to a military base under armed guard.
The drama traces back to the chaotic final in Rabat on January 18.
Senegal walked off the pitch in protest after Ismaila Sarr’s goal was disallowed and Morocco earned a stoppage-time penalty through VAR.
Coach Pape Thiaw ordered the team down the tunnel. They returned 15 minutes later, watched Brahim Diaz miss the penalty, and eventually won 1-0 in extra time through Pape Gueye’s strike.
Fifty-eight days later, CAF’s appeal board overturned everything.
It declared Senegal forfeited the match under its regulations, crowning Morocco champions for the first time since 1976.
Senegalese Football Federation Secretary General Abdoulaye Sow wasted no time hitting back.
“The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is corrupt, and the reactions worldwide following this decision confirm total outrage,” he told Le Soleil.
Sow insisted the FSF president is engaging all parties, adding: “The fight is far from over. I want to reassure all Senegalese people. Senegal has the right, and victory is on its side. The cup will not leave the country.”
The federation has already announced plans to challenge the ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Meanwhile, the trophy remains secured at the military facility, with soldiers even posing for photos alongside it.
The saga has sparked heated debate across Africa.
In Nigeria, football fans and analysts have flooded social media with support for Senegal while questioning CAF’s consistency, drawing uncomfortable parallels with past decisions affecting the Super Eagles.
For now, Senegal is holding firm.
The president’s profile picture says what words alone cannot: the trophy stays home until the final verdict drops.
