Dr Kayode Fayemi, immediate past Governor of Ekiti State and former Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, has extended warm greetings to Muslims across Nigeria on the successful end of Ramadan.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Fayemi Media Office and made available to NaijaChoice News, the former governor praised the devotion, discipline and spiritual renewal shown by the faithful during the month of fasting, prayer and charity.
He described Eid-el-Fitr as more than a festival, calling it a moment to strengthen compassion, sacrifice, humility and love for humanity. The message comes as Nigerians prepare for the celebration, with the Federal Government declaring Thursday and Friday as public holidays following the Sultan of Sokoto’s confirmation of the moon sighting.
“Eid-el-Fitr is not only a celebration of the end of Ramadan but also a reaffirmation of the virtues of self-restraint, generosity and faith in God. These are values that should guide our conduct as individuals and as a nation,” Fayemi said.
The former governor urged all citizens, regardless of faith or ethnicity, to reflect on the lessons of the season. He stressed the need for peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, especially at a time when the country requires greater unity to overcome its challenges.
Fayemi called on Nigerians to reject division, violence and intolerance. He said the nation’s progress rests on the collective will to live in harmony.
He also encouraged Muslims to carry the spirit of generosity beyond the festivities, particularly by supporting the less privileged in society.
Dr Fayemi wished the Muslim Ummah a joyful and peaceful Eid-el-Fitr. He prayed that the blessings of the season would bring hope, unity and prosperity to Nigeria.
The statement was signed by Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, Head of The Fayemi Media Office, Abuja, on March 19, 2026.
