The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja to restrain Senator Ireti Kingibe from parading or presenting herself as a member of the party.

As previously reported by NaijaChoice News, the Wuse Ward Executive Committee of the ADC on Thursday, March 12, 2026, slammed an indefinite suspension on the senator representing the FCT in the National Assembly over alleged anti-party activities, insubordination, violation of the party’s constitution, persistent absence from ward meetings, failure to pay statutory membership dues and levies, and other infractions including the willful confiscation of the ward register.

New Telegraph reports and monitoired by NaijaChoice News that the fresh legal action, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/539/2026, was filed on Friday by the ward executives through their counsel, Maxwell Opara.

In the originating summons, the ADC ward leaders are praying the court for six principal reliefs, among which are:

  • A declaration that the Wuse Ward Executive Committee has the constitutional power under the ADC constitution to discipline and suspend any party member within its jurisdiction;
  • A declaration that the indefinite suspension slammed on Senator Kingibe remains valid and subsisting;
  • A declaration that the senator can no longer lawfully parade or present herself as a member or card-carrying member of the ADC while the suspension is in force;
  • A declaration that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ADC cannot and should not recognise Senator Kingibe as a member of the party at any level during the period of her suspension; and
  • An order of perpetual injunction restraining the senator from parading herself as a member of the ADC pending the final determination of her disciplinary status.

The suit, which also invokes Sections 6(6)(b) and 251 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), Article 16 of the ADC constitution, and the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2019, seeks to affirm the ward’s authority to enforce discipline and prevent the senator from continuing to act as a party member despite the suspension.

This development represents the latest twist in the ongoing internal crisis rocking the ADC in the FCT, barely 48 hours after the suspension was announced following a general meeting of the ward where a two-thirds majority ratified the decision.

The matter is yet to be assigned to a judge.
