Kano – The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested two teenagers, Umar Yahaya, 19, and Musa Al-Hassan, 18, for allegedly plotting to host a “gay” birthday party immediately after the Eid-el-Fitr prayers.
The suspects, who identified themselves as Yan Daudu (locally known as pimps or effeminate men), were picked up following intelligence that they had used social media to invite similar individuals from across the country for the gathering.
Deputy Commandant General of the Board, Mujahideen Aminudeen, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, described the planned event as one that would feature dancing and other acts considered immoral and shameless.

“It is unfortunate and upsetting that some young people, whose ages are still very small, such as Umar Yahaya (19 years old) and Musa Al-Hassan (18 years old), claim to be Yan Daudu (pimps) and even invite others who identify the same way,” Aminudeen stated.
He added that the teenagers had planned the celebration right after Eid prayers, with invitations sent nationwide, and had even disrespectfully mentioned the Hisbah Board and its leadership in their online posts.
The official noted that during interrogation, the suspects admitted to the plan and expressed regret, realising they lacked proper understanding of Islam and good conduct.
As previously reported by NaijaChoice News, the Kano Hisbah Board has always opted for rehabilitation over immediate prosecution in cases involving young offenders, focusing instead on religious reorientation.
True to form, the Board has decided against sending the teenagers to court or jail. They will remain under Hisbah supervision for religious counselling, guidance on prayer, good character, and productive living.
Aminudeen explained: “We will continue to guide and support them, teaching them religion so that they understand prayer, good character and responsibility… Because if these children are simply taken to court or imprisoned, it may not help them.”
He stressed that the planned party was seen as an attempt to squander the spiritual rewards of Ramadan, describing it as “inappropriate acts associated with Yan Daudu involving immoral conduct and shameless behaviours.”
In a related development, the Hisbah Board has directed its commanders to heighten monitoring of mosques and public spaces in the final days of Ramadan. The move follows complaints that some night prayers (Tahajjud) and Tarawih sessions are being used for unwholesome activities, including private meetings between men and women.
“When the month of Ramadan reaches its final days, it is a time when the community should intensify their efforts… However, the Hisbah Board has been receiving complaints that some people who go out for Tahajjud are not actually going there for worship,” Aminudeen added.
The Kano State Hisbah Board remains the primary agency enforcing Islamic moral codes across the state, a role it has upheld since the return of Sharia in 2000.
