A tragic accident has occurred in Thailand after a construction crane collapsed onto a moving passenger train, leaving at least 30 people dead and dozens more injured.

The incident happened on Tuesday, January 14, 2026, in Nakhon Ratchasima province, northeastern Thailand. Reports say the crane was part of an ongoing railway construction project when it suddenly fell onto the train as it passed beneath the site.

According to authorities, the passenger train was traveling from Bangkok to eastern Thailand when the crane collapsed without warning. The impact caused several train carriages to derail, prompting emergency responders to rush to the scene and assist survivors.

Officials have confirmed that at least 30 people lost their lives, while dozens sustained injuries. Some of the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment. Authorities say the casualty figures may change as rescue and recovery operations continue.

The Thai government has ordered a full investigation into the cause of the crane collapse. Safety standards at the construction site, as well as the contractor’s compliance with regulations, are under review.

This incident has sparked widespread shock and grief across Thailand, with many calling for stricter safety measures around construction projects near active transport routes. Authorities have extended condolences to the families of the victims and promised accountability once investigations are concluded.

This devastating accident stands as one of Thailand’s deadliest rail-related incidents in recent years. As investigations continue, many hope the tragedy will lead to improved safety standards to prevent similar disasters in the future.
