The internet is once again on fire with another classic Facebook rumour. A post claiming that Nigerian music star Adekunle Gold (real name Adekunle Kosoko) has filed for divorce from his wife, singer Simi, has been trending heavily, complete with what looks like an official “divorce petition” from the High Court of Lagos State.

Attached is a scanned document stamped “FILED FOR DIVORCE” on 28th February 2026, with suit number HCL/FC/2024/0178.
Well, we at NaijaChoice News did the needful – we checked properly.
Here’s why this story is FAKE and the document is “Oluwole” standard:
- The marriage date in the petition is pure nonsense The so-called petition claims the couple’s marriage was solemnized on 19th February 2026. Bros/sis, Adekunle Gold and Simi have been married since 9th January 2019! That’s over seven years ago. They just celebrated their 7th wedding anniversary in January 2026 with sweet throwback posts and even welcomed twins recently. How can a document filed in 2026 say they got married last month? Pure fabrication!
- Suit number vs filing date don’t match Real Lagos State High Court suit numbers carry the year the case was filed. This one says HCL/FC/2024/0178 but the stamp says filed on 28th February 2026. Even a first-year law student will spot that red flag. Lawyers who have seen the document on social media are already calling it “Oluwole petition” – the famous fake-document market style.
- Format is completely wrong A real High Court of Lagos State divorce petition does not look or read like this. Legal experts who spoke to blogs like Stella Dimoko Korkus confirmed the layout, wording, and court stamps are off. The “APPROVED” and “CERTIFIED TRUE COPY” stamps are clearly photoshopped or copied from somewhere else.
- Zero confirmation from the couple or credible media As of today (2nd March 2026), neither Adekunle Gold nor Simi has posted anything about divorce. In fact, both have been posting loved-up content and celebrating family milestones. No reputable Nigerian newspaper (Punch, Vanguard, The Guardian, Legit.ng, etc.) is carrying this story because there is simply no story. The only places you see it are random Facebook groups and WhatsApp forwards.
The real tea: Adekunle Gold and Simi are still very much together
Just last month (January 2026), Adekunle Gold posted: “7 years in and my heart still knows where it belongs.” Simi replied with her own sweet tribute. They have a beautiful daughter and recently welcomed twins. The power couple has always been known for keeping their marriage private and drama-free.
Why these fake stories keep spreading
Nigerians love celebrity gist, and some people know this. They create fake court documents, add dramatic headlines, and watch it spread like wildfire on Facebook (the favourite app for unverified news). The aim? Clicks, shares, and sometimes to trend for no reason.
NaijaChoice News verdict: This is 100% fake news. The “divorce letter” is a poorly made forgery designed to deceive fans.
We advise everyone: Before you forward or believe any “court document” trending on social media, cross-check with the couple’s official pages, verified news outlets, or simply ask yourself – does this even make sense?
Adekunle Gold and Simi are fine. Their marriage is intact. Let the haters and forgers find another story.
